Wittmund clinker bricks for an urban villa in Hamburg
The urban villa in Hamburg shown here impresses with its clear lines and a facade that harmoniously combines tradition and modernity. The style of the building blends seamlessly into the historical appearance of the surrounding houses from the 1920s, thus preserving the charm of the neighbourhood.
A Wittmund clinker brick in the 198 sorting was used for the facade of the urban villa, which plays a central role in this aesthetic integration. Fired according to traditional craftsmanship, sorting 198 offers an extraordinary colour palette, ranging from deep red to almost black nuances. This variety of colours is created exclusively through the targeted control of the firing processes and atmospheric conditions in the tunnel kiln, without the addition of any chemical additives or engobes. This allows the natural beauty of the clinker bricks to be fully utilised.
The rough texture and irregular surface structure of the Wittmund clinker bricks emphasise the handcrafted character of the product. Each brick is unique, giving the facade a special depth and vibrancy that blends harmoniously into the architecture of the 1920s.
In line with Wittmunder Klinker‘s sustainability strategy, East Frisian meadow clay, which is quarried within a maximum radius of 15 kilometres from the plant, is used as far as possible for the production of the bricks. This sustainable approach and the specialised firing process clearly set Wittmund clinker bricks apart from standard industrial products.
The traditional manufacturing process and the resulting natural colours create a product that is both aesthetically pleasing and functional. The urban villa in Hamburg impressively demonstrates how traditional brickwork and modern architecture can merge into a harmonious whole.
