The Ceramic Roadmap 2050: Yes, we can!

In many sectors today mainstream policy is made on European level. The first step in this is often the publication of a roadmap.

In these roadmaps, the European Commission sets down how it imagines the Europe’s development in respect of certain areas – corresponding legislation isn’t then long in coming, as was the case, for instance, in climate policy, resource efficiency, transport, and energy efficiency.

European industrial associations are called upon to follow the example of the European Commission and publish their own roadmaps with their vision for 2050. With the help of its own roadmaps, industry will be able to heighten its profile on European level.

The ceramics industry has now published its own roadmap with the subheading “Paving the way to 2050”. Core message is: ceramic products are sustainable! In the roadmap, first the multifacetedness of the ceramics industry with its varied applications is shown. Key aspects like the lifecycle approach, water circuits in production, and particularly the durability of ceramic products are also well presented.

One thing should, of course, not be missing from the roadmap: consideration of the industry’s CO2 emissions. The roadmap shows that there is potential for reduction, no question about that. But it also shows that there are process emissions that cannot be reduced. In this context, it is also cleverly demonstrated how many ceramic products contribute to lowering CO2 emissions by their use.

In my view, the Ceramics Roadmap 2050 is a successful start in order to remain in communication with the European policy makers in key topic areas.

I hope to have made you curious. The roadmap can be viewed at //www.cerameunie.eu" target="_blank" >www.cerameunie.eu:www.cerameunie.eu. Convince yourself.
