Current clay potential in Germany –

Part I: Autochthonous clays, plastic clays and loams

Based on the current clay potential map of Germany, all clay resource types important for the clay brick and tile ­industry are characterized in respect of their key geo­­logical and ceramic-related properties. In accordance with their geological origin, in the first part of the paper (WZL 2013) autochthonous clays such as raw clays and raw kaolins, plastic clays and loams are examined. Subject of the ­second part of the paper (WZL 2014) are geologically older ­resources such as claystone, shale clays and clay shales.
