14.6% more housing units completed in Germany in 2011
In the year 2011, a good 183 000 new housing units were completed in Germany. As reported by Germany‘s Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), that was 23 000 units or 14.6% more than in the year before. With that, the housing economy is seen to be continuing its recuperation (2009 nadir: 159 000).
A total of 161 200 new units were completed in apartment complexes (+15.1% over 2010), while completions in single-family homes and in multi-family houses rose by 14.3% and 15.5%, respectively. The increase in two-family homes came to 10.5%.
The cubic contents of completed new non-residential buildings rose by 1.7% over 2010, to 175.1 million m3. That gain is primarily the work of private investors (+2.1%), since the enclosed space accounted for by the public sector decreased by 1.2% compared to 2010.
