14.2% more housing units completed in 2014
Approximately 245 300 new housing units were completed in Germany in 2014. As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), that was 30 500 or 14.2% more units than in the previous year. For the fourth time in a row now, the number of completed housing units has risen sharply from year to year. In 2 013 and 2012, the increase amounted to 7.2% and 9.5%, respectively, after a whopping 14.6% in 2011.
All in all, some 216 100 new domiciles in residential buildings were completed last year (+ 14.7% over 2013), with those in multi-family houses showing the greatest increase, at + 28.0%, followed by duplex units, at + 12.2%. The completion of single family homes accelerated by 3.0%.
