26th Deubau Award Offered: Award for Innovative Young Architecture

No matter whether the surprising change in the utilisation of the infrastructure, the pioneering urban development concept or the bold conversion: The Deubau Award distinguishes young offices whose construction work differs from the accustomed work. The award which is endowed with Euro 15,000 and is offered by the City of Essen and Messe Essen has promoted young German architects since 1964. Applications for the Deubau Award 2016 can be submitted to www.deubau-preis.de with immediate effect and will be presented within the framework of DeubauKom. The trade fair for architecture, the housing sector and industrial construction will take place at Messe Essen from January 13 to 16, 2016.
Professor Christian Baumgart, President of Verband Deutscher Architekten- und Ingenieurvereine, will act as the Chairman of the Jury this time. One new specialist companion will be Professor Johannes Kappler, Deubau Award winner in 2012 with Palladium flat. The experts (including those from: Bund Deutscher Architekten - "Association of German Architects", Bund Deutscher Baumeister, Architekten und Ingenieure - "Federation of German Master Builders, Architects and Engineers", Verband Deutscher Architekten- und Ingenieurvereine - "Association of German Architects and Engineers Societies", Deutsche Akademie für Städtebau und Landesplanung - "German Academy for Urban Development and Regional Planning" and the City of Essen) will check the submitted applications. In this respect, attention will focus on the commitment, the enthusiasm for experimentation and the desire to incorporate unconventional subjects into the debate about the future of architecture and urban development. According to the statutes, the honoured works should also be characterised by responsibility to society and make a practical or theoretical contribution to the creation of a human environment.
