Berthold Lorig now retiring from Stephan Schmidt
On October 31, 2018, after 25 years with the Stephan Schmidt Group, Berthold Lorig entered the passive phase of progressive retirement in advance of his well-earned full retirement in 2020.
After graduating from Höhr-Grenzhausen University of Applied Sciences as a ceramic engineer, he gained his initial professional experience in raw material extraction and processing at Marx Bergbau. Four years later, Mr. Lorig accepted a position as production manager at the Agrob Company in Trier-Ehrang, where he spent the next nine years carrying responsibility for the fate and fortunes of that local tile factory.
Then, in October 1993, he joined the Stephan Schmidt Group, initially serving as technical manager of the then subsidiary Regina Baukeramik GmbH, a producer of split tiles. Next, in June 1995, Berthold Lorig transferred to Stephan Schmidt KG, where he oversaw the company’s technical sales and distribution to customers in all branches of the ceramic industry in northern Germany. His responsibilities extended likewise to the field of application technology for diverse product innovations.
Finally, on March 1, 1998, Berthold Lorig was appointed a member of the Stephan Schmidt Group executive board, taking over as head of sales, marketing and application technology.
