Leipfinger-Bader KG plants “energy forest” for porosity enhancement

Brick and block producer Leipfinger-Bader is now cultivating an “energy forest” for the eco-friendly obtainment of porosification agents. In cooperation with specialist consultants from Wald21 GmbH, Leipfinger-Bader planted an initial six hectares, or roughly 15 acres, of willow and poplar cuttings. These fast-growing trees reach a height of up to ten metres within four to five years. Harvesting them then will reap the company as much as 100 tons of porosity forming material. Because the plants resprout again and again, they can be harvested up to five times before new cuttings have to be planted. Nor do they require any fertilizers or plant protectants. Reduced to sawdust, the trees provide a natural, environment-friendly means of porosity enhancement for bricks and blocks.

Leipfinger-Bader is planning to expand the size of its energy forest in the coming years.
