Student field trip 2016:
Off to Leipfinger-Bader clay brick plant!
Now, for the third time, we at the trade journal Zi Brick and Tile Industry International are organizing a student field trip.
On 13 and 14 December, students and industry partners from the clay brick and tile industry and its suppliers will meet up. Under the direction of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Christian Schäffer from Koblenz University of Applied Sciences, Department of Materials Engineering – Glass and Ceramics, Höhr-Grenzhausen, and Prof. Dr. W. Krcmar from the Georg Simon Ohm University in Nuremberg, the students from different semesters will be able to find out about career opportunities in the clay brick and tile industry and its supplier sector.
Following two trips to plants in the clay roofing tile industry, this year we accepted an invitation to visit the Leipfinger-Bader clay brick plant in Vatersdorf. There will be lots to see, as the company has invested heavily in the plant in recent years. Besides the new tunnel kiln in Vatersdorf, we shall also take the opportunity to view the clay-block-filling plant in Puttenhausen.
As well as the tour programme, we want to convey basic principles and the latest news from the industry to the students in specialist talks. Our industry partners this year, Grothe Rohstoffe GmbH & Co. KG, Hans Lingl Anlagenbau und Verfahrenstechnik GmbH & Co. KG, Opavsky Emailleschmelze & Glasurenfabrikation, and Refratechnik Ceramics GmbH, will hold presentations on the focuses of their work, research activities and career opportunities.
Just as important as the transfer of knowledge is the opportunity for the students and industry partners to get to know each other better. Divided into small groups, the students will be able to interview the company representatives in short talks and ask any questions they may have. During the group evening, there will be ample opportunity to talk more in a relaxed atmosphere.
Our thanks go to Leipfinger-Bader clay brick plant for the invitation and our industry partners who are co-financing this event. We all, that is the brick and tile industry and its suppliers, have to concert our efforts to encourage a well-educated and committed new generation of professionals into the industry. The field trip provides an excellent opportunity for this.
We look forward to the forthcoming trip and we shall, of course, report on the event. If you are interested in the event, just ring me on: + 49 5241 8 08 92 64.
