Present and future challenges for the heavy clay supply chain

On 26 September Sacmi held an Open Day attended by major international players in the clay brick and tile industry worldwide, from producers to representatives of certification bodies. Starting with an acknowledgement of today’s difficulties, the event looked into questions posed by future scenarios where the crucial issues will be sustainability, efficiency and product/process innovation.

Heavy Clay Lab

The day started with a tour of the Sacmi Museum and the production operation. Highlight was then a visit to Sacmi Imola’s Heavy Clay Lab. Here the attendees had ample opportunity to find out all about the possibilities offered by the Heavy Clay Division. From presses through dryers to kilns, extensive tests can be conducted on products. A big advantage is that technologies that are otherwise used in whitewares, like, for example, roller dryers and kilns, can also be used for tests on heavy clay ceramic products.
