Wienerberger closes three German brick plants in Thuringia, Brandenburg and North Rhine-Westphalia

As first reported by the Thüringer Allgemeine on 25 November 2023, the Wienerberger plant in Bollstedt, a district of Mühlhausen/Thuringia, is to close at the end of the year.

The 30 or so employees affected were informed of this at a works meeting on 14 November and are to be made redundant at the beginning of December. Production activities had already been temporarily suspended in July due to a lack of orders.

Wienerberger has been forced to close the site for the same reason, as the company explained on 28 November in response to an enquiry: "The entire construction industry is facing a very difficult market situation. The weakening of the sales markets is due to the challenging macroeconomic environment, rising credit costs following the increase in the key interest rate and inflationary effects." Accordingly, Wienerberger has adapted to the expected market environment and adjusted its production planning.

In addition to the Bollstedt plant, production at the plants in Reetz, Brandenburg, and Rietberg, North Rhine-Westphalia, will also be suspended with immediate effect, the information continues.
