2014 – one of Sacmi’s best business years
With consolidated sales over € 1.2 bill., the net worth of the cooperative at over € 660 mill. and a global workforce with almost 4000 people, 2014 goes down as one of the best business years in Sacmi’s company history.
The good results are based on high investment in research and technological innovation (over € 20 mill. again in 2014) and a strong focus on working together with customers in international markets. “The international economic outlook remains complex, especially in certain geographical areas,” says Sacmi-President Paolo Mongardi.
The success has come from “a policy of carefully targeted sell-offs and takeovers (e.g. Cosmec, Cmc, Eurofilter) and a concentration of resources in core sectors (ceramics, packaging, automation), plus major investments at the Imola site where the number of employees has now climbed to 1085, with over 120 new hires since 2011,” explains Managing Director Pietro Cassani.
Although Sacmi is a decidedly international enterprise and generates over 88 % of its sales outside Italy, the Group has kept its technological and manufacturing heart firmly in Italy. “Doing business in a globalized, highly competitive world,” explains President Paolo Mongardi, “has made it necessary not just to set up a far-reaching sales organization but also to establish production facilities abroad, such as the Indian plant inaugurated in Sanand earlier this year.” The mission was, he said, “localization not re-localization”.
The Ceramics division continued to grow in 2014, in terms of both volume (5 %) and profit margins. For 2015, the initial figures already look highly encouraging, reveals Managing Director Pietro Cassani. One goal is to implement further innovation on the organizational front as well as testing and developing new products at even faster rates.
