Germany: construction of 8.4 % more homes permitted in 2015
In 2015, construction of around 309 000 homes was permitted in Germany, that is 8.4 % or just under 24 000 homes more than in 2014. The positive trend that began in 2009 therefore continued in 2015. For the first time since the year 2000, the mark of 300 000 permitted homes was exceeded.
Of the homes permitted in 2015, 264 000 were newbuild homes in residential buildings (+ 7.5 % compared to 2014). This increase in homes resulted especially from the increase in building permits for homes in apartment blocks (+ 6.9 % or + 8 900 apartments respectively) and the increase in building permits for homes in detached houses (+ 8.1 % or + 7 100 homes respectively). The permits for semi-detached houses increased by 5.3 % (+ 1 000 homes) compared to the previous year. For dwellings in residential homes, the permits increased by 12.5 % (+ 1 300 homes), after they had already increased in the previous year by 31.1 % (+ 2 500 homes). In the period from 2013 to 2015, the number of permitted homes in residential homes therefore increased by a total of 47.6 %.
In 2015, the enclosed space of the permitted new non-residential buildings increased by 1.2 % compared to 2014, reaching 188.9 mill. m³. This development can be attributed exclusively to more permits for non-public building owners (+ 1.3 %).
