Increasing brick body strength by adjusting the particle-size distribution
1 Context
The particle-size distribution of raw materials employed is one of the most important parameters with respect to workability, drying and firing behaviour and pore-structure formation within the brick body, which dictates most of the finished product properties. Until now, most investigations regarding the complex influence of particle-size distribution have been of an empirical nature – for example, by means of a Winkler diagram for the three size fractions 0–2, 2–20 and >20 µm. The present research project, however, pursues a new approach.
