The construction industry goes digital
The digital transformation has reached the construction industry, as shown in a sub-study of the “2018 SME Digitalization Index” conducted in collaboration between Telekom and techconsult, a consultancy firm.
More and more companies backing new technologies
In the construction industry, the index stands at 51 of 100 possible points – up 2% on the previous year. Overall, when it comes to digitalization, the construction industry is in the bottom third in a branch comparison.
Compared to last year, digitalization has shifted into the focus of the construction industry. 33% of those questioned said that digitalization had been firmly anchored in their business strategy. Other branches, however, are further: In the overall average, the digital future forms part of the strategy in 45% of enterprises.
89% of enterprises that access business applications mobile are working more efficiently together. 84% can respond faster to enquiries. And 85% of the enterprises in which the employees can use communication applications on the go respond more quickly to enquiries. With 60 points, the topic of “Optimizing security and data protection” clearly has priority for the industry.
However, only 30% of companies regard their own employees as optimally qualified for digital transformation, an industry average of 35% do this. Therefore, the enterprises offer relevant further training. 64% send their employees to classical training events such as seminars. Webinars and other online learning formats are on the increase.
At 38% of construction enterprises, the benefits of digitalization measures exceed the costs. Another 38% of enterprises report balanced cost-benefit ratios. 67% of digital leaders say that the benefits were greater than the costs.
