Solutions for clean air

Since 1963, Hellmich GmbH & Co. KG has been producing systems for flue gas purification and dedusting technology as well as components for the associated piping and apparatus engineering. Dust and dirt in operating areas, on machines and at belt transfer points not only cause high maintenance costs, but in the worst case even production downtimes. The prevention and elimination require sophisticated systems. The Hellmich team provides its customers from all over the world with a comprehensive service from a single source: from problem analysis to engineering and manufacturing to installation and regular maintenance.

Reducing energy costs with the WT heat exchanger

Steadily rising energy costs are a serious problem for every manufacturing company, regardless of the respective industry. This is why alternatives are needed that relieve the budget without any loss of efficiency in the production. Hellmich GmbH & Co. KG has developed the WT heat exchanger for this purpose. It is a system for heat recovery from thermal processes, which has been specially developed for industry. The system is correspondingly designed to be robust and requires low maintenance.

Cross-flow and counter-flow principle

The flue gas-air heat exchanger operates according to the cross-flow and counter-flow principle. In the exchanger block there are built-in walls made of rectangular tubes. The flue gases flow past these walls emitting their heat energy via the tube walls. Then this heat is transferred to the cooling air flowing in the opposite direction in the tubes and is thus returned to the operation.

The exchange process is monitored and controlled by a resistance thermometer. This ensures that the operation of the heat exchanger always takes place above the acid dew point. In order to achieve this, a certain amount of the hot air obtained is mixed with the cooling air. This method also effectively prevents the undesired formation of condensate.

Contamination, which usually occurs on the process gas side, is eliminated in the WT heat exchanger by a simple but proven mechanical system with cleaning clay. Therefore, any caking on the tube walls, which often occurs owing to problematic flue gases, do not present a problem for the exchanger system, according to Hellmich.

Compact design

The individual blocks of the heat exchanger are arranged on top of each other. This means that even large exchanger areas allow for a system in a compact and rational design. Companies with limited area will appreciate this. Hellmich GmbH & Co. KG not only manufactures and installs the plate exchangers described above, but also classically designed shell-and-tube heat exchangers. Regardless of the type of heat exchanger system the recovered heat energy can be used for a wide variety of product processes or for heating of company buildings.
