Gordian Strapping retrofits strapping system at Wienerberger’s Todhills plant
At Wienerberger’s Todhills Plant in Bishop Auckland, Co. Durham, UK, an aging strapping system in the production line for void packs was to be replaced with a new strapping unit. The goal was to ensure strapping of well-presented and secure packs at a rate of 60 units per hour. Gordian Strapping has supplied a new vertical strapping system, for which spare parts are available quickly, either from Gordian’s head office in Basingstoke, or from the local engineer. As an existing packaging machinery supplier to Wienerberger with a proven track record and a dedicated team of 13 service engineers strategically based across the UK, Gordian Strapping was an ideal partner for the project.
Gordian supplied an OMS 043 vertical strapping machine, fitted with a TR19 high-tension strapping head. Gordian also supplied a spare strapping head, which enables production to continue while one head is being serviced off-line. The new strapping machine applies five vertical straps per pack. The OMS TR19 HT head, which can apply a maximum tension of 7 000 N, is designed for use with polyester strapping, and is proven throughout the building products industry. The heat seal technology in the strapping head means that major service is only required every 200 000 cycles. Furthermore, the head is compatible with a variety of different strap grades. At < 70 dB the strapping machine is also extremely quiet.
